Amethyst known as the stone for February, purple, lilac,mauve in colour it is found in many locations worldwide, favoured by royalty as purple is considered a regal hue. Amethyst has a long history and has been used by ancient civilizations, amethyst was also used by the early christian church it became part of a bishops regalia, today the highest grade of amethyst is referred as" Bishops Grade".
In India amethyst is associated with the crown chakra, and Tibet amethyst is considered sacred to Buddah and is used to make roseries. The most valued shades of amethyst are the very deep rich purple, today amethyst is a very popular stone set into jewellery, faceted or cabochon (polished)
